Other Intiatives

About

We’ve also created a number of other initiatives, and while they’ve been one-off events they could easily be replicated.  Examples include:

“We are limited only by our imagination and our will to act.” - Ron Garan

  • an initiative for Diabetes Prevention, where the lamp making workshop was added to the diabetes educational curriculum

  • Coming of Age initiative for 7th and 8th graders.  We added a lamp making workshop curriculum to a Coming of Age curriculum that is used by a Unitarian Chuch.

  • SPARRC (Student-centered Program to Advance Research in Cancer Careers) - a lamp making component was added to a program for college students.

Bottom line, we receive a number of suggestions for potential initiatives and workshop ideas.  We are always open to suggestions and we love to work with collaborators.  We recognize that almost any idea that utilizes a workshop approach could benefit by adding a lamp making component to their workshop process for a few good reasons:

  • Art and creativity enhance the workshop process

  • The finished product - the lamp - offers a bridge from the “bubble” of the workshop back to every-day reality, where the magic of the workshop experience can often fade.  The lamp functions as a luminous reminder of the workshop experience and the meanings found and intentions made.

  • “Light” as a theme can enhance any participatory effort.

Whether you are a nonprofit organization, an educational institution, or a corporation - TIP can be a valuable collaborative partner.
